Ex-Presidential aide, Babafemi Ojudu
Former Presidential Special Adviser on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, has revealed why former President Muhammadu Buhari did not support Yemi Osinbajo?s presidential ambition.
Speaking on veteran journalist Edmund Obilo?s podcast, State Affairs, on Monday, Ojudu stated that Buhari?s decision was influenced by his perception of Osinbajo as lacking a visionary outlook.
?I think Buhari wasn?t a visionary,? Ojudu remarked.
?I was a very big admirer of Buhari because of what I saw in his first term and because of his attitude, pattern, and lifestyle. But coming up close, I didn?t see much of vision; it?s unfortunate, I?m saying this.?
Ojudu described Buhari as a patriot and an incorruptible leader, noting his minimalist lifestyle and integrity.
However, he argued that these qualities alone were insufficient for effective leadership.
?Those are good qualities, but they are not enough when you are a leader. You have to design good vision, and that?s what makes us celebrate Awolowo today; he was a visionary,? he said.
The comments provide insight into the political dynamics leading up to the 2022 presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Osinbajo contested but lost to the eventual winner, President Bola Tinubu. (Nigerian Tribune)
