BREAKING: Ooni’s ex-queen, Naomi, on hunger strike in prison

Detained Ex-Ife Queen Naomi Silekunola

Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, former queen of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has gone on hunger strike at the Agodi correctional facility where she is remanded following the stampede that claimed the lives of 35 children during a charity event organised by her in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Her mother, Mrs Funmilayo Ogunseyi, disclosed this in an interview published this Saturday morning, December 28, 2024, by The PUNCH.

Asked about the condition of the former queen the last time she visited her, the mother replied:

“She wasn’t feeling fine. She wasn’t happy about the whole incident. She loves children. The queen loves and helps children, single mothers, old women, and widows. She is still in pain that those children lost their lives because her intention was pure.

“Organising this kind of event to help people is what she has been doing for years. She used to buy clothes for children at Christmas. She has emaciated in the custodial facility. She has refused to eat.

“When I was there yesterday (Thursday), I persuaded her. She still did not eat. The place was not comfortable for her. She was sad about the children losing their lives.”

News Express reports that Prophetess Naomi and other accused persons were charged to court on Tuesday, December 24.

The magistrate ordered them to be remanded at the custodial facility in Agodi, and adjourned the case till January 13, 2025.

In as much as the incident was unfortunate, there is high chances that it will happen again if the root cause is not addressed. If the Nigerian government does not do anything about the hunger and untold hardship inflicted on Nigerians by their polices which has brought this rot to

The accused will never try to help anyone again. They will have their heart hardened after this experience. Their intention was not for anyone to die.
