SP Bright Edafe presenting suspects to the media
Two friends, Ekene and Stanley, both 20 years old, have revealed to the Delta State Police Command that they killed a woman on her farm in Oriogo while trying to steal her motorbike.
The suspects were presented to the media by SP Bright Edafe, the Command?s spokesperson, on Tuesday.
According to SP Edafe, the young men ambushed the victim in a remote bush area, intending only to rob her of her bike.
However, the situation took a deadly turn when they strangled her and inflicted fatal machete wounds. Disturbed by their actions, one of the suspects later confided in his mother, who encouraged him to report the incident to local vigilante authorities.
The vigilantes swiftly apprehended the duo and handed them over to the police.
In their account, Ekene disclosed that Stanley initiated the attack. ?Stanley used a cloth to strangle her,? Ekene explained. ?When she collapsed, he struck her with a machete. We tried to take the bike but couldn?t find the key, so we fled. I later told my mother what happened, and she advised me to report to the vigilante.?
Stanley, admitting to the murder, insisted it was not premeditated. ?We didn?t plan to kill her; we only wanted the bike,? he stated. ?I killed her by mistake. She didn?t know who I was.?
The Delta State Police Command is currently investigating the case, and further details will follow as the investigation unfolds. (Nigerian Tribune)
