Oyetola and Adeleke
Former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola and his successor, Ademola Adeleke, have again locked horns over the integrity of the flyover constructed at Olaiya in the State capital by the former.
Governor Adeleke had in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, banned heavy trucks from plying the Olaiya flyover over alleged safety issues.
The statement adds that, ?Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ban heavy-duty trucks from plying the Olaiya Bridge at the state capital, citing safety reasons arising from the technical reports on the state of the bridge.
?The decision was reached at a Security Council meeting presided by the Governor in a bid to protect the bridge from possible collapse and avoid untoward happenings with continuous passage by heavy trucks?.
However, addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday at the Ilerioluwa Campaign office, former Commissioner for Works in the state under Oyetola, Engr. Remi Omowaiye described the directive as a deliberate attempt to discredit Oyetola and undermine the quality of the job done on the flyover.
?The flyover was constructed by a world-class firm and in line with global best practices. The flyover was built to carry all kinds of vehicles, including articulated vehicles. Unlike what the Adeleke administration is currently doing at Oke-Fia and other parts of the state.
?We are also aware of the clandestine move to discredit the bridge in a bid to demolish it. We, hereby challenge the present administration to show the world the result of the test conducted on the flyover which is domiciled in the Ministry of Works that supervised the project. I am also sure they would not dare to come public with a series of tests conducted on their flyovers that is yet to come close to reality,? he said. (Vanguard)
