Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has asked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, not to ?put fire? in his state.
Makinde pleaded with Wike to spare Oyo State should he decide to make bold his threat on Saturday at an event organised in honour of the minister by the Ijaw Peoples Congress in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
?I came to identify with my brother, the celebrant of today, the honourable minister of the federal capital territory and the immediate past governor of Rivers state,? Makinde said.
?When I showed up yesterday, I told him I brought a peace offering because he has been boasting that he will put fire in some states. I said, please, don?t put fire in Oyo state.?
Monopoly Of Violence
In the wake of the political rift between himself and the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, the minister said, ?Nobody has the monopoly of causing violence.?
Wike also used the opportunity to clear the air about public perception that Fubara was speaking the mind of the entire Ijaw people as both battled for supremacy.
?I have told people that nobody has a monopoly on causing violence. The mere fact that we choose to play according to the rule of law. To be calm and not to turn ourselves into where investors would run away, and that is what we will continue to do,? he said.
?So, all these people going to television to say Ijaw people are fighting me. Ask them, all the Ijaw people in the House of Assembly were positioned.
?Who has Fubara made? All the things you see are people who are envious of our growth. They couldn?t do what we are doing today. These are people who we have defeated politically severally. If the opportunity comes again, we will defeat them again.
?I have made an Ijaw man governor of Rivers State. God used us. All of us here had sleepless nights. So who loves Ijaw more? Is it people who come out on television who can not even make their Ijaw brother governor? If they were that powerful, since the old Rivers State, has Ijaw ever become governor? Where are they??
Background
In August, Wike warned governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against interfering in the affairs of the party in Rivers state.
The rift between both Wike and Fubara has created two factions in the Rivers House of Assembly, with each camp electing a speaker loyal to the minister and the governor.
Worried by the development, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors? Forum, Bala Mohammed, had said the party?s structure in Rivers will be handed over to Fubara.
Displeased by Mohammed?s comment, Wike said he would ?put fire? in the states controlled bygovernors of the PDP siding with Fubara.
Responding to the threat, Mohammed said he had enough water to quench Wike?s fire. (Channels TV)
