No fewer than 15 people have lost their lives due to flooding across several local government areas in Katsina State.

In addition, 3,094 individuals were displaced, and 21,481 sustained injuries from August through early September.

These details were revealed by the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hajia Binta Hussain Dagana, during an exclusive interview with The Nation in Katsina.

She further reported that flooding has damaged 32,542 houses across 32 local government areas in the state.

Dagana highlighted that the most severely affected areas include Dutsinma, Daura, Kaita, Katsina, and Batagarawa.

She added that Funtua, Malumfashi, and Musawa local government areas have also been impacted by the floods.

She announced that distribution of palliatives donated by the bank of Industry to the flood victims commenced in Katsina on Thursday, while other relieves from the state government including cash assistance, building materials and infrastructures were on their way for distribution next week.

Hajia Dangana also stated that already the agency had submitted to the state government a compilation of statistics of victims, damages, areas affected and the causalities as well for action.

Meanwhile emergency support groups, including Jos based Health and Development Support Program, HANDS, have been trooping into the state to establish areas of needed assistance to the state government.

Findings by The Nation revealed that Katsina requires urgent federal assistance just like Borno, Kano and Jigawa states. (The Nation)
