Gunmen on Tuesday morning killed seven persons in Naka town, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State.
Naka town is located on Makurdi- Naka- Adoka – Ankpa trunk A federal highway.
The inhabitants are predominantly peasant farmers who have been suffering herdsmen attacks for over 16 years.
An eyewitness, Terna Ukaa, told The Nation the gunmen stormed Naka town on bicycles towards Adoka road around 4 am and opened fire on sleeping residents.
Ukaa said they did not pick any item, suggesting the gunmen came to kill.
He said before the Tuesday killing ,armed herdsmen havedestroyed their farm land using cattle who graze on crops like cassava,rice and millet .
Police spokesman Kate Aneene, a SP, said she was yet to confirm the incident but promised to call back. (The Nation: Text, Excluding Headline)
