Barrister Lucky Nonso Emeh
Barrister Lucky Nonso Emeh, a staff of the Ministry of Justice in Umuahia, has been killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen at his residence in Aba, Abia State last night.
Eme was said to have been killed in front of his residence atNo. 28 Umuatako road, off Aba-Owerri Road, Aba.
The news of lawyer’s untimely death has sent fear among the members of Bench and Bar community in not just Aba but the State at large.
Emeh, who reportedly buried his father not too long ago, was said to have been seen in Umuahia, the state capital on Monday before he left for Aba.
A colleague was said to have driven him to the popular Umuahia motor park where he was said to have boarded a commercial bus to Aba.
It wasn’t clear at what point that the gunmen started trailing him or the incident that led to his untimely death.
It was however gathered that it was a case of assassination.
Sources said that before his brother could arrived the scene, he had died in the pool of his blood.
Some members of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Aba Branch confirmed the death of Eme.
They said that though they wouldn’t want to preempt police investigation there were indications that it was a case of assassination.
The leadership of the NBA, is yet to react to the incident officially as efforts were on to visit the family in order to obtain firsthand information from them.
A colleague, Barr. Emperor Ogbonna, speaking on the killing of his colleague said: “I am mourning.
The entire Bar and Bench in Abia state are mourning.
“My man, Barrister Lucky Chinonso Emeh was shot near his home at Umuatako two days ago.
“The last time I was with him was at the Museum in Aba about a month ago when we were laughing and talking law.
“Never knew that was the last time I was going to see this good man.
A very respectful lawyer.
“He was never controversial like us.
I wonder why anyone would want to snuff out the life of this good man.
Rest in peace my man.”
Another colleague of the deceased said: “This is a sad news,my man is gone someone that just lost his father not quite long time ago.May God grant your soul everlasting rest.
“I was at the hospital on a visit to my sick aunty when he was brought in. The shock I had that night was inexplicable.
“My Jolly good fellow whom I attend same church with, just gunned down like that? Seeing him struggling with life in a pool of his own blood?” (The Nation: Text, Excluding Headline)
