The Oyo State Government has reassured residents of the state that it will not relent in efforts aimed at securing lives and property within the state following a recent attack that claimed 10 lives in Saki West Local Government Area.
Some yet to be identified assailants attacked and killed some residents of Gbepakan Village in Saki West Local Government on Tuesday.
The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, visited the community on Saturday, promising that efforts would be scaled up to ensure adequate security especially in areas identified as vulnerable to attacks.
The village, which is more than two hours from Saki Township, is an agrarian community where both Yoruba and Fulani settlers have coexisted peacefully for years.
The acting governor maintained that the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has always shown its commitment to delivering on the fundamental task of securing lives as evident in its huge investments on security.
He condemned the attack which affected mostly the Fulani residents in the village, noting that government will protect its various communities and ensure that no man is oppressed irrespective of his ethnicity or religion.
The Acting Governor called for peaceful coexistence between the Yoruba and Fulani residents in the area, adding that the victims will be catered for by the government through the provision of some materials to meet their immediate needs.
He added that the government would bring the perpetrators to book and provide all necessary logistics to aid security agencies in their investigations into the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr Ayodele Sonubi. had earlier visited the affected village to assess the level of damage and device ways of preventing such attacks going forward.
The Local Government leadership of Saki West under which the village falls led the government delegation to the place of attack. They describe the incident as unfortunate and sue for peaceful coexistence to resume as such an attack has not been recorded before.(Channels TV)
