Alhaji Aminu Alkali, Deputy Governor of Taraba
By MARTINS ABOCHOL
Alhaji Aminu Alkali, Deputy Governor of Taraba, on Thursday requested the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), to intervene on the collapsed Namnai bridge along Jalingo – Wukari Federal Highway.
Alkali made the request when he received the management team of the NEDC, who paid him a courtesy visit in Jalingo.
NAN recalls that the Namnai bridge linking Wukari and Jalingo, recently collapsed due to massive flood in the area.
The deputy governor said that the collapsed bridge was on the highway that linked the Northeast and the Southern parts of Nigeria.
He stressed the need for a quick intervention on the bridge due to its economic and transportation viabilities.
He also advised the commission to consult the state before allocation of projects, adding that the state officials would determine the needs and priorities of projects being cited for the people.
He commended the commission for its provision of massive infrastructure in the state, urging it to sustain the tempo.
Earlier, Alhaji Goni Alkali, Managing Director of the commission, said that they were in the state as part of their oversight to inspect numerous ongoing projects.
Alkali said that the inspection of the projects was to ensure their early completion and quality of work.
He assured the government of the commission’s commitment towards completion of the projects and handling over for use by the people. (NAN)
