Prof. Kate Omenugha, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Igbariam, Anambra State, says the university made over N1.5 million from the sale of vegetables in three months.
Omenugha made the disclosure during organisational review report at the university’s Senate Chambers in Igbariam, Anambra on Thursday.
She said: “Our vision is to transform this university into the leading educational institution in the Southeast, Nigeria, and even beyond. We have the potential to achieve this goal if we adopt a private sector mentality.
“By embracing this mindset, we can avoid becoming just a factory producing graduates and instead establish an esteemed centre for learning self-reliance.
“Just within three months, we made over N1.5 million profit from the sale of vegetables from the school farms.
“This shows that we are determined to explore other income-generating avenues, particularly in the field of agriculture.”
Omenugha also urged recipients of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Institutional-Based Research project to seize the opportunity and aim to have their research published in renowned global journals.
While assuring the university staff that the management under her watch, would prioritise their welfare, she urged them to imbibe hard work, dedication, and adherence to regulations to enhance service delivery. (NAN)
