Edo PDP chieftain Francis Inegbenik
A police squad believed to be from Abuja has reportedly arrived in Esan, Edo State, to arrest Chief Francis Inegbeniki, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recently left the All Progressive Congress (APC).
“We don’t know what Chief Inegbeniki’s offence or offences are but the manhunt for him may not be unconnected with the September 21st election in the state, in which the PDP’s Dr Asue Ighodalo is the leading candidate, thereby unsettlingAPC, hence the reliance on intimidation and molestation,” a source close to Inegbeniki told News Express on Wednesday afternoon.
The source claimed that Inegbeniki’s recent exit from APC has rattled the federal-ruling party, especially as his joining PDP has further boosted Dr. Ighodalo’s chances of victory.
There have been reports of arbitrary arrest of members of the PDP across the state with the aim of instilling fear in their hearts as to bring about apathy.
