Edo state PDP governorship candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State on Sunday said its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, remained the best and most qualified candidate to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki as governor of the state.
Rev. Olu Martins, Deputy Director General, Asue/Ogie Governorship Campaign Management Council, made the assertion during interaction with journalists in Benin.
He said the people of the state should evaluate the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo and of the PDP based on their credentials in order make informed decision.
“Ighodalo is the most qualified candidate to take over from Governor Godwin Obaseki, to continue his legacies and sustain them,” he said.
Olu Martins argued that the standard required for leadership in Edo is not high enough, adding that there is need to raise the bar.
“We have to raise the standard so that men of integrity, and character like Asue Ighodalo can have access into our political space”.
He alleged that Senator Adams Oshiomhole who according to him has become the campaign spokesperson of the APC governorship campaign council didn’t leave any legacy behind in the state, unlike Governor Obaseki who is leaving a productive economy among other legacies in Edo.
“Oshiomhole who is criticizing Obaseki didn’t leave a productive economy and has no company attached to his name in the state.
“But, today, Obaseki is leaving several factories and industries that is generating IGR for the state”, Martins said
Also, the spokesperson of Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council, Roy Oribhabor, claimed that 21st-century politics was too critical for the candidate of the APC, who he said had no capacity to govern Edo state.
“We are appealing to Edo people to tell Adams Oshiomhole that he is not contesting this election. He should allow the man contesting the election to speak for himself so that tomorrow we can hold him responsible”. (Nigerian Tribune)
