Simon Ekpa, heading the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, issues warning of a 30-day shutdown for Nigerian government offices in the South-East due to regional insecurity and Nnamdi Kanu’s ongoing detention.

Ekpa made this announcement in a statement via his official X handle on Friday.

He mentioned that the resolution was reached during a virtual gathering of his Biafra Government in Exile, BRGIE, cabinet.

Ekpa has threatened that the lockdown will start from August 28, 2024, to September 26.

He clarified that the shutdown would impact all Nigerian government offices in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Anambra states in the South-East region.

Ekpa also demanded the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and all other Biafrans held by the Nigerian government, along with the demilitarization of the South-East.

“The Biafra government just gave the green light to lock down Nigerian institutions in certain Biafran areas due to ongoing attacks on Christians and Biafrans, including church invasions and worshipper abductions.

The Biafra government has chosen to shut down specific Nigerian institutions in parts of Biafra territory for a 30-day period, starting from 28.8.2024 to 26.9.2024.

We insist on the complete withdrawal of all Nigerian security forces from Biafra territory.”

“We are insisting on the freedom of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all other Biafrans currently held in different places across Nigeria, even in the far North,” he emphasized.

Even though IPOB canceled the Monday sit-at-home they had announced earlier, the Ekpa-led BRGIE still enforced it in the South-East region. (Saturday Independent)
