Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu
The United Kingdom has condoled the Iwuanyanwu family over the passing of their patriarch, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, expressed the sentiments of the British Government in a condolence letter addressed to the Iwuanyanwu family.
Iwuanyanwu, who was until his death, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, passed away on July 25, 2024.
I received with great sadness, news of the passing on of His Excellency, Chief Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndi-lgbo worldwide. Losing a loved one can be a painful experience, and my thoughts and prayers are with you all, Montgomery wrote.
The British High Commissioner further recalled his meeting with Iwuanyanwu last year when he visited Enugu and paid him a courtesy visit at the Ohanaeze Secretariat.
He shared with me his plans for Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo which were laudable. We discussed building bridges between the United Kingdom and the Ndi Igbo of Southeast Nigeria, on which I welcomed his wise advice.
I left with many insights from a man who wanted to do good things for his people.
On behalf of the British High Commission in Nigeria, I send you our heartfelt condolences. May his legacies continue to speak for him.
My condolences to the entire family, and the Ohanaeze ndi Igbo.
With the assurances of my highest regard, Montgomery further wrote. (Daily Sun)
