The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA), Prince Ebitimi Amgbare says that collaboration and partnerships were fundamental to unlocking the agricultural potentials of the Niger Delta region.
Amgbare, who re-echoed the capacity of theNiger Delta region to sufficiently feed Nigeria through food production, noted that NDBDA is poised to play its role in boosting food production by harnessing the natural endowments of rich biodiversity and water resources.
A statement issued in Yenagoa on Friday by Mr Isaac Ombe, Special Assistant on Media to NDBDA MD/CEO, Amgbare, said he spoke on Thursday at the Niger Delta International Festival and Expo/Economic Summit at the Transcorp Hotel Abuja.
He explained that it was needless for Nigeria to import fish if the abundant potentials in the Niger Delta region can be properly harnessed as the region can feed the whole country.
"I am here to see to the possibilities of progress in the Niger Delta region especially as it concerns agriculture.
"As the MD/CEO of the NDBDA I can tell you that the Niger Delta can sufficiently feed Nigeria.
"I can tell you that there is no need importing fish to Nigeria. We can supply fish to the whole of this country,” he said.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Niger Delta, is aimed to explore strategies for positively transforming the economic fortunes of the Niger Delta region.
Amgbare noted that since he assumed office as the helmsman of the NDBDA in the President Bola Tinubu-led Renewed Hope government, the operational word has been "Collaboration".
He lauded the organisers of the programme for the partnership, and also thanked the minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Engr Abubakar Momoh, for making the programme a reality, aimed to seek collaboration so that the Niger Delta can be well positioned to feed Nigeria.
