Kaduna Electric raises Band A tariff to N209.5/kWh amid NLC protest

Kaduna Electric has announced a tariff increase for its customers on Band A feeders, raising the rate from N206.80/kwh to N209.5/kwh, effective from July 1, 2024.

In an official statement, Kaduna Electric confirmed the tariff adjustment for Band A feeders, updating the cost from N206.80/kwh to N209.5/kwh.

The revised tariff rate was disclosed in a notice issued by Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Head of Corporate Communications at Kaduna Electric, informing customers of the increase.

The new tariff rate came into effect on July 1, 2024, as stated in the notice released on July 3, 2024, affecting both prepaid and postpaid customers.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, addressed the recent tariff change on Tuesday, highlighting that the Band A tariff remains cost-effective compared to self-generated energy options in Nigeria.

Adelabu emphasised that Band A feeders account for 40 percent of the energy consumption within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

The recent tariff hike by Kaduna Electric suggests that other electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) across the country may soon follow suit with their own rate increases.

This increase occurs amidst the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)s protests, demanding non-discriminatory tariffs and calling for a reversal of the hike.

Despite the tariff increase for Band A, Kaduna Electric confirmed that the rates for bands B, C, D, and E will remain unchanged.

Kaduna Electric reassured its customers affected by the tariff hike that they can expect a minimum daily power supply of 20 to 24 hours. (BusinessDay)
