The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi says his ministry has cancelled the practice of Variation of Price for construction projects in the country.

The Minister disclosed this in Calabar during a stakeholders meeting on the Lagos Calabar Coastal Road.

The Minister said the practice is a fraud as contractors use this to put a brake on government projects.

He also disclosed that directors in the ministry have been directed to relocate to the zones and send daily reports of project execution.

Senator Umahi said this is part of a number of policies to ensure the proper supervision of government projects across the country.

“I have directed all the directors in the regions to relocate immediately to the zones, supervise contractors on daily basis and send reports.

“We will no longer pay variation of price on projects because it’s a fraud.

“Contractors rely on this to put a serious hand brake on the progress of our projects, we have discovered the fraud and will not allow it.

“If you cannot do a project based on our terms, leave the project.

“If you collect money from government and don’t do the work, you will go to prison”, the minister said. (Daily Sun)
