Governor Soludo
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
A foremost citizens advocacy platform, Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet), has called on Gov Chukwuma Soludo to sign the recently passed ANSIEC Bill, into law.
The group made the call in a press release signed by its leader, Prince Chris Azor.
The release read, “The Anambra State House of Assembly has taken a significant step towards strengthening democracy in our State by passing the ANSIEC Bill into law.
“This crucial legislation which came as an executive Bill, aims to ensure the independence and effectiveness of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), while empowering the Commission to set in motion the process of conducting local government election in the State. .
“We the citizens of Anambra State therefore, urge Governor Chukwuma Soludo to sign the ANSIEC Bill into law without further delay.”
According to the group, the law will enhance the credibility and transparency of local government elections, empower ANSIEC to conduct free and fair elections, strengthen democratic institutions in the state and engender sustainable development.
It further appealed to Governor Soludo, to keep his promise and demonstrate commitment to democracy and the rule of law by constituting the ANSIEC Body with the Chairman, Secretary and Commissioners accordingly.
ASCONet added, “This would engender a stronger, more democratic Anambra State.”
Recall that the Anambra State House of Assembly had on Wednesday last week passed a Bill into law for the establishment of state’s Independent Electoral Commission.
