The Anambra State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the bill for the establishment of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).
Recall that the executive bill which was sponsored by the majority leader enjoyed a speedy passage scaled through a second reading on Tuesday, June 28, after the lawmakers made contributions on the gains of the bill and its importance towards the conduct of local government election in the state.
The House in its plenary on Wednesday, presided over by the Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze, the lawmakers took turns to go through the bill clause by clause to make amendments.
Addressing the House, the speaker commended the members for their contributions towards building a better Anambra state.
According to him, the bill when assented to by the governor will set the ground for the executive arm to take steps towards the conduct of local government election in Anambra State.
Meanwhile, in a chat with the Deputy Speaker, Mr Chukwuma Okoye, representing Awka South 2 constituency, he said the bill will assist Governor Soludo to conduct local government election which will in turn bring more development to all the twenty one council areas in the state
According to Okoye, Governor k Soludo have proven to be different from other politicians by promising and taking necessary steps towards conducting the grassroots election which have not been done in the state for a long period.
The passed Electoral bill will come into effect on June 5, 2024 after the governors Assent.
The House later adjourned till Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
