The Civil Society Organization, “The Osun Masterminds (TOM),” has issued a strong condemnation of a bill passed by the Osun State House of Assembly to increase the emoluments of political office holders.

TOM described the bill as “grossly insensitive, illogical, irresponsible and unacceptable,” arguing that it is particularly inappropriate at a time when the state is facing financial challenges and the governor has already appointed a large number of political appointees.

The group urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to reject the bill, arguing that the state’s resources should be prioritized for the welfare of workers and the general public, who are struggling with inadequate salaries and rising costs of living.

TOM also expressed concerns about the rising insecurity in the state, warning politicians against patronizing thugs and calling on the government to take immediate action to address the growing menace of armed robbery, cultism, and thuggery.

The group challenged the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture to explain his plans for expanding the state’s economy and becoming a leading agricultural force in the country.

TOM also expressed support for the federal government’s efforts to achieve local government autonomy, criticizing Governor Adeleke for failing to fulfil his promise of making local governments more efficient.

The group also criticized the slow pace of work on the Oke-Fia-lameco road project, expressing concerns about the structural integrity of the ongoing construction. (Daily Sun)
