Suspected gunmen numbering about four on Saturday evening, attacked Akpoha community along the Afikpo/Amasiri road axis in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing three persons.
Sources name the victims to include, Egwu Nicholas Nwocha, Emmanuel Nwocha (a member of the defunct Ebubeagu security outfit) and Inya Blessing Orieoma a trader in the area.
Some others within the scene of the incident were reported to have sustained varying degrees of injury during the unprovoked attack.
An eyewitness account in the area revealed that the suspected Gunmen operated with two motorcycle, with sophisticated Ak47 rifles.
When contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident.
He said their personnel are on the trail to apprehend the assailants.
“The bodies of the three persons killed have been deposited at the morgue and the place is calm now, our men are on the trail of the gunmen.
