NFF appoints interim coaches for Super Eagles
The trio of Kennedy Boboye, Imama Amapakabo and Salisu Yusuf will take charge of the Nigerian men’s national team for their international friendly matches against Mali and Luxembourg.
According to the first vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi, the move to bring in the three coaches for the international friendly matches is to help them “get exposure” on the international stage.
“We want our indigenous coaches to get exposure. Salisu Yusuf will lead Amapakabor and Boboye to coach Super Eagles for two friendlies,” Akinwunmi revealed on a magazine programme on Channels TV, Sports Tonight.
Boboye manages Abia Warriors in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) while Amapakabo is head coach at Enugu Rangers.
Salisu has been with the Super Eagles and is no novice to international football having worked with Sunday Oliseh.
The Super Eagles will play Mali at Stade Robert Dichon, Rouen, on May 27 while they face Luxembourg on May 1.
The Nigeria head coach position is currently vacant since Oliseh called it quits from his role in February citing “incessant violations of our signed agreement.”
Nigeria Under-23 national team coach Samson Siasa was handed the reins to take charge of the last game (2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier), which Egypt won to qualify for the competitions.
The NFF has been linked with a number of foreign coaches including Paul Le Guen.
