A 17-year old Junior Secondary School (JSS) student, Sunday Adegbulu has told men of the Ondo State Security Network codename Amotekun that he specialised in stealing cable from home and electricity transformer.

Adegbulu and 44 others were arrested by the security network for various crimes including stealing, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism.

The student of Commercial Secondary School, Akure said his gang members usually sell electricity transformer cables for N25,000 to Mr Abubakar. The cables stolen from houses go for lower prices.

The suspect who survived electrocution said he and his gang members vandalised the electrical installation of an uncompleted building. The latest incident, he said happened on April 28, when he went with one of his gang members to a transformer to steal the cable.

However, he said he never knew that there was going to be an electricity supply which led to electrocution. He however survived and was arrested by the men of Amotekun who took him to the hospital for treatment. He blamed the devil for the crime.

Parading other 44 suspects, the Commander of the security outfit, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye said his men have been on constant 24-hour patrol across the 18 council areas of the state which led to the arrest of Adegbulu and 44 others.

Adeleye said Adegbulu was arrested while cutting the cables. He said there electricity supply that burnt half of his body.

His words “After a lot of trailing, we arrested him because the moment it happened, he was rushed to three different three hospitals and when they got wind of the fact that detectives from the Amotekun corps were on their trail, they moved him out of Akure. We also trailed him to the location and brought him into a very terrible state.

“He was to be killed so that he would not reveal his sponsors. We had to revive him, brought him to the health facility of the corps and we spent a lot of money to make him come back to life. He was able to tell us nine other members of the gang, including their godfather who is on the run. We are the trail of the godfather.”

Adeleye said a suspected kidnapper Jubril, was arrested a couple of weeks ago and granted bail by the court only to be rearrested 48 hours after his release.

According to him, the suspected kidnapper was arrested barely within 48 hours of his release, while the case of the earlier offence was ongoing at the court.

Adeleye said “The residents and traditional ruler of his village called us that three people were to be kidnapped by the gang of this same suspect but we were able to apprehend them. It is of note that the security organisation that arrested him is still going on with the court case on the initial kidnap case. Now, he was arrested for another one.”

Speaking on other arrests, Adeleye said “We have cases of those that specialise in the vandalisation of electrical installations of uncompleted buildings all around. They pull out the wire, pill, melt, and sell them to the same kingpin that I initially said is on the run and we’re still trailing.

“We have few cases of house and shop buglers and we have those that were arrested in connection with kidnapping and cultism. Out of these 45 suspects, seven are already in court but we needed them to throw light on our ongoing investigation, so, we sought the leave of the court to allow us a few more days which was granted.” (New Telegraph)
