The Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has praised Nigerian-born Dr. Ikenna Okezie, the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Somatus, a healthcare start-up, based in Virginia United States and 17-year-old Nigerian-American girl, Ashley Adirika, who has excelled brilliantly in her academics.
On his verified X handle @PeterObi, on Sunday, May 12, 2024 the former Anambra state governor said these Nigerian youths abroad achieved great feats irrespective of “numerous challenges and disturbing negative news at home,” adding that more Nigerian youths will tow similar paths with good education and a conducive, peaceful environment.
Obi wrote: “Despite numerous challenges and disturbing negative news at home, some fellow Nigerian citizens have continued to set the bar of excellence high on the global stage with their highly creative records and innovative achievements.
“I just read some heartwarming reports of two exceptional Nigerians who have earned global respect and recognition for their hard work. First is Nigerian-born Dr. Ikenna Okezie, the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Somatus, a healthcare start-up, based in Virginia United States, and reported as a $2.5 billion market leader in value-based kidney care. Through his start-up healthcare company, Dr Okezie aims to revolutionize the way kidney disease is managed and treated, by leveraging advanced technologies to engender the prevention of kidney diseases while enabling patients to take better control of their health.
“Next is the inspiring story of Ashley Adirika, a 17-year-old Nigerian-American girl who, through her exceptional brilliance and outstanding academics, not only earned her the privilege of applying to Ivy League Universities in the US but she got accepted into all of them.
“She also won a $4 million scholarship to study at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. I celebrate them for these exceptional feats and for setting the bar of excellence high, through hard work and determination, a lesson to millions of Nigerian youths who aspire to attain great heights in life. Hard work and productivity are key to success in life.
“With a good education and a conducive, peaceful environment, more Nigerian youths will excel globally.
“This remains our commitment in the New Nigeria, and it is Possible.”
