Jonathan unveils Ojukwu’s statue, commissions Emeka Ojukwu Way on Thursday

President Goodluck Jonathan will this Thursday, August 30, unveil the giant statue of late Ezeigbo Gburugburu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, in Onitsha and name the expanded and beautified expressway from Niger Bridgehead to Upper Iweka Road in the famed commercial town after the late nationalist.

As reported August 20 by Transport & Business Express, Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, had announced the naming of the road which serves as the gateway to the South East as Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Way during a ceremony in Ojukwu’s Nnewi country home to signal the end of his mourning. Ojukwu, who died on November 26, 2011 aged 78 and was given an unprecedented hero’s burial last March 3.

According to Uche Ezechukwu, whose League of Anambra Media Professionals (LAMP) works to promote Governor Obi's development efforts for the state, the unveiling of Ojukwu’s statue and commissioning of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Way by President Jonathan would be “signalling the start of the immortalisation project of the hero.”

As previously reported by Transport & Business Express, President Jonathan would during the visit also commission the SABMiller Brewery in Onitsha, said to be the biggest in Africa, as well as Orient Refinery, Aguleri thus signaling Anambra’s formal admittance into the league of oil-producing states in Nigeria.
