Late Dr Ogbonnaya Onu

The Family of the First Civilian Governor of Abia State, late yesterday, Thursday, April 11, 2024, broke its silence, confirming reports of his death in the early hours of the day.
In a text signed and issued to journalists in Abakaliki by Dr Uzoma Onu, on behalf of the family, said that Onu died at the age of 73.
He described it as “great loss” to the family.
The statement came hours after News Express broke the news of the passing the cerebral intellectual and politician who served as Minister of Science and Technology under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dr. Uzoma Onu noted that Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu was a distinguished and patriotic Nigerian, who served the nation effectively and efficiently in various capacities.
“He was a fine statesman, party leader, political strategist, brilliant scholar, outstanding intellectual, teacher among others.
“A man of discipline and exemplary character; our hearts are filled with sorrow. He will be greatly missed by all, who knew him for a long time to come.
“The burial arrangements will be communicated by the family in due time,” Onu added. (Adapted from a NAN report)
