Police Spokesman in Bayelsa, ASP Musa Mohammed
Violent rivalry and clash between notorious cult group, the Greenlanders and the Bobos on Tuesday night allegedly led to death of a 28-year-old, Victor Namabebe.
The bloody clash occurred at Amarata, a suburb in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.
Spokesman of the Police in Bayelsa ASP, Musa Mohammed confirmed the development on Wednesday.
He explained that the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.
“At about 9 pm, on Tuesday, one Chief Emmanuel Namabebe reported at the A Division of the Nigerian Police that his 28-year-old son, Victor Namabebe, was found dead at Amarata area of the state capital.
“Police personnel from the A Division mobilised to the area and found the victim. Upon examination, he was found with various grievous injuries to the head “ Mohammed said.
Sources in the neighbourhood said that, the deceased had stormed the Amarata/Ebis Mechanic area with some group of boys suspected to be members of the Greenlanders against a member of Bobos who had earlier allegedly ‘crossed’ (encountered) them.
It was learnt from residents of the area that the fierce battle between the rival cult groups led gun duel and use of dangerous weapons.
It was also gathered that many of the residents, who were trapped at various football viewing centres at around 8 pm for the EUFA Champion league matches, abandoned the game and scampered home for safety.
The victim was reported to have been left in his own pool of blood with various degree of head injuries.
The suspected cult groups spots at Apex Academy Road, OMPADEC, Ebis Mechanic in Amarata axis of the state capital are on alert for reprisal attacks over the death of the victim.
