The leadership ofNational Union of Electricity Employees(NUEE) has urged President Bola Tinubu to declared a state of emergency in the power sector.
NUEE National President,Engineer Adebiyi Adeyeye, who frowned at the epileptic power supply in Nigeria, described the situation as unpalatable.
A statement by Adeyeye in Osogbo on Saturday also urged President Tinubu to call a roundtable of all major stakeholders in the sector.
According to him: “No doubt, the Federal Government is making frantic efforts to improve the power generation in the country but they need to show some level of seriousness in making sure that Nigerians enjoy stable power supply.”
He added that despite FG’s order on Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to withdraw licenses of non-performing electricity distribution companies, the Generating and Transmission companies must also be ready to show commitment.
The NUEE boss advised government should encourage and harness the abundant renewable energy source as against the use of fossil fuel to improve power generation and reduce the effect of climate change in Nigeria as the world is moving towards just energy transition. (The Nation)
