Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has given the directive to arrest the policemen shown in a viral video attacking Mrs Ogechi Eze, a nursing mother.

A video circulating online depicted a woman and her children reportedly being assaulted by policemen from the Tiger Base of the state police command.

This information was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, in a statement released on Thursday.

The statement elaborated that the CP had instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command’s X-Squad and Provost to ensure that the officers face appropriate sanctions within the existing laws of the Force if found guilty.

A section of the statement read, “The Imo State Police Command is currently investigating a video circulating on social media, in which Mrs. Ogechi Eze, a nursing mother, claimed that she and her children were assaulted by operatives of the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit, known as Tiger Base.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate arrest and detention of the accused officers and directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the command’s X-Squad and Provost to ensure that they are appropriately penalized in compliance with the Force’s regulations if found responsible.

“The command urges Mrs. Ogechi to come forward to the Police Public Relations Department at Command Headquarters, Owerri, to aid in identifying the officers as part of the ongoing investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command reiterates that under his leadership, the Command will not tolerate any form of unprofessionalism, arbitrary arrests, assault, or disrespect towards the public by its personnel and will not hesitate to take necessary disciplinary measures against any defiant officer infringing upon the fundamental rights of citizens whom they are constitutionally mandated to serve and safeguard.

“Subsequent updates regarding this matter will be communicated to the public in due course,” he said. (The PUNCH)
