A 24-year-old first-class graduate, Rebekah Sekidika, has tragically passed away at Paragon Clinics and Images in Port Harcourt in an unfolding heart-breaking story.

The victim’s parents are now pointing fingers at the hospital, alleging negligence and even murder.

In early February, the news of Rebekah Sekidika’s untimely death sent shock waves through the town.

Described as both beauty and brains, Rebekah had just graduated with top honors from Benson Idahosa University and was set to embark on a journey to further her studies abroad.

Tragically, her dreams were cut short while undergoing a routine hysteroscopy diagnosis at Paragon Clinics and Images.

The clinic, which holds a retainer agreement with NLNG, where Rebekah’s father works, now finds itself at the centre of controversy.

Rebekah’s father, Mr. Sampson Sekidika, who accused the hospital of medical negligence, urged the Rivers State government, human rights organizations, and civil society groups to join forces in putting an end to such medical negligence.

He also advised Nigeria Medical Association to be impartial in their investigations.

Despite attempts by our correspondent to get a statement from Paragon Clinics and Images, access was denied.

Instead, the correspondent was directed to the Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association.

The NMA Chairman in Rivers State, Dr. Ebbi Robinson, expressed sympathy for the Sekidika family, but noted that the incident was a result of a medical procedure gone awry and should not be a murder petition.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, explained that samples for an autopsy and toxicology was taken from the deceased before her burial two weeks ago and it’s being conducted.

Despite Rebekah’s burial, her family’s counsel remains steadfast in their pursuit of justice, alleging negligence on the part of Paragon Clinics and Images. (Channels TV)
