Onicha Ugbo community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State was on Tuesday, beclouded with pandemonium and uncertainty when the news of the murder of a youth, Mr. Ifeanyi Izeke, filtered into the town in the early hours of the day.

It was gathered that suspected Fulani herdsmen had shot him dead while he was working on his farm located at Ikoko quarters, Ogbekenu, Onicha Ugbo in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

Local sources who spoke to our correspondent revealed that the deceased, Mr. Izeke, was on his farm with some hired labourers of Northern extraction when he was allegedly fired upon by one of them.

His hand and abdomen were shattered by the gun shot. He died on his way to the hospital.

Recall that alleged Fulani herdsmen had been terrorizing farmers in the locality which had resulted in the killing of three young men in a space of two years.

Following the killing of Ifeanyi, irate youths, particularly the Ogbekenu youths, mobilized themselves and swung into action with other youths across the community.

Mr. Ifechukwude Osedunnme, who spoke on behalf of the youths, said that they decided to embark on the peaceful protest to demand for justice from the federal government, as the killings had continued unabated and no measures had been put in place to arrest the ugly situation.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the Monarch of the town, Obi Chukwumalieze, had intervened in the matter during an emergency meeting. He appealed to the youths to shelve their swords and allow the police to do their work.

Consequently, our PEO gathered that the Monarch, in conjunction with the Police in the local government, has given a two weeks’ ultimatum for every Hausa/ Fulani individual who resides in the bush to relocate to the town or face consequences.
