Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga
Operatives of the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command, have conducted a raid on kidnappers’ hideout in Awgbu community, Orumba North local government area of the state and recovered an AK-47 rifle with Two magazines loaded with 50 rounds of ammunition.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Monday, said the security operatives of the Command have intensified efforts to apprehend the suspects.
According to Ikenga, following the smashing of a notorious Kidnap Gang onFriday nightin Awgbu, Orumba North LGA,they aretrialing the fleeing suspected kidnappers.
He said the Police have intensified the manhunt for the kidnappers who escaped from the scene of the shootout.
He said, “while combing the surrounding bushes on Saturday morning, Police and the Local Vigilanterecovered a loaded AK-47 Rifle with Double Magazines containing 50 Rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.”
He disclosed that the weapons have been rendered safe and taken into custody for further investigation.
He also stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye had praised the diligence of the Joint Team and promised to reward them for their commitment to public safety.
“Meanwhile, the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu has taken over the case for proper investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police.
“The Commander of the Unit has assured that it will leave no stone unturned until the kidnap suspects are brought to justice.
“Also, the four male victims rescued from the kidnappers last Friday have all been re-united with their joyous families” he said. (Nigerian Tribune)
