A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced a 19-year-old trader Khalid Salish to two years imprisonment for stealing 10 chickens.
The convict pleaded guilty to trespass and theftand begged for mercy.
After listening to Salish’s guilty plea, Magistrate Thomas Ajitse, summarily sentenced him to two year imprisonment with an option of N75,000.fine.
The magistrate also ordered him to pay N100,000 as compensation to the complainant.
He said the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Feb. 17at the Ankwan Rogo Police station byone Sadiiq Zakariya , the complainant.
Gokwat said that the convict trespassed into thecomplainant’s house and stole the chickens worth N100,000.
He said the convict committed theoffence punishable under the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
