A 49-year-old man identified as Fasasi AbdulAfeez has died while attempting to rescue his son who fell into a well in Kwara State.

The Incident happened in New Maselu village, Gaa Jangbo, Igbonna road of Offa local government area of the state.

The deceased son, 17-year-old Khaleed, was said to have gone to the well to fetch water when one of his legs suddenly slipped and he tumbled in the process.

However, the deceased father was said to have suffered the same fate while trying to rescue his son.

The development attracted the attention of residents who summoned the men of the state fire service after several failed efforts to rescue them.

Spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle who confirmed the incident said the brigade was summoned through a telephone call by one Alhaji Taiye Gadamosi, living in the neighbourhood.

According to him, “The terrible incident occurred around 4:11 pm on Thursday. However, firemen recovered the father dead from the well while the son was rescued alive. All efforts to revive the deceased failed and the body was later handed over to one of the family members”, he noted.

Adekunle added that “The Director of the service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident.

“He urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities desist from sending under age children to fetch water in domestic well”, he submitted. (Daily Trust: Text, Excluding Headline)
