•How she was over-powered, new keke stolen

A female tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, on Monday night, February 12, 2024 lost her new tricycle to hoodlums who attacked her with guns.

Information has it that the lady whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report resisted the two man gang by sitting and holding tight to her keke, despite the gun they were wielding.

Narrating the incident as it played out, an eye witness who gave her name as Chiamaka said that the gun wielding men double crossed the lady with their own keke in front of a newly opened G-7 Supermarket, opposite St Joseph the Worker in the Okpuno area of Anambra State and told her to come down from the keke, which she refused and held on to her steering.

She said the female keke driver was very brave. When they double crossed her, the few passengers left in her keke ran away but she sat tight and was screaming for help.

“When she refused to let go the robbers after threatening to shoot her brought out cane and started flogging and beating her. People around rushed to help her, at that point, but the robbers shot into the air with their AK 47 to scare people away. Everybody ran back.

“The beating became much and the lady gave up. One of them took over the new keke and drove off while the partner rode in the one they came with.

“The girl still shouting for help after she was pushed out of the keke got up and started running after the robbers until another keke came around. She jumped into the keke to pursue the thieves.”

Some officers of the Special Anti-Cultism (SPAC) who were in the area on hearing the incident stormed the area but the robbers were already gone.

Reacting to the incident, the state Commissioner for Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, assured that the culprits would be tracked and arrested.

He said he has instructed his men to endure stricter surveillance of such areas and clamp down on such criminals that are trying to subvert efforts by security agencies to sustain peace and unity in the state.

On his part, the chairman, Anambra Keke Forum, Osita Obi, expressed anger over the attack, saying that the incident would be looked into to found ways to handle the matter.

It was however learnt that the female keke rider used to sell foofoo, among other things at Unizik junction from where she saved money to purchase the stolen keke.
