As part of activities to encourage discussion on electoral democracy, free speech, and creativity among Nigerian youths at home and abroad, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) will be showcasing the best of entries in its maiden DDM Video Competition on February 25, 2024.
The Presidential election of February 25, 2023 remains a watershed in Nigeria’s political history where for the first time, Nigeria’s multi-party system produced a three-horse race on three political platforms.
The election, according some global and impartial observers, witnessed some of the worst electoral practices, and introduced new lexicons like “technical glitch’, putting the Nigerian electoral umpires on the spot in very clear terms.
Judicial follow-up on claims of electoral fraud also produced what some legal analysts perceive as stunningly convoluted judicial pronouncements.
“The video competition is meant to be a reflective discourse and help steer conversation into proper introspection on the event of last year”, DDM said in a statement.
While competitive entries have been submitted, the organizers are calling for more interested participants to submit their videos.
Titled, “What I think about the Nigeria February 25, 2023 Presidential Election”, participants are expected to make a video of not more than five minutes on the subject matter.
“It is meant to fully engage the public,” explains Kevin Jakpour, project manager of the competition in written press release.
According to him, to ensure transparency, no human panel will be engaged in the vetting of the entries.
“The entries that gain the highest views and engagements on our social media platforms get to claim the prize money of N100, 000 each,” Jakpour said.
“Each entry would be on DDM’s YouTube, X (Twitter) and Facebook handles.
“Entries with the highest views on each handle get N100,000.
“To participate, interested candidates are to submit a video through WHATSAPP or TELEGRAM number +234 708 7507 299.
“The videos will then be uploaded on DDM’s YouTube channel, X (Twitter) and Facebook.
“Any video with highest engagements across each of the social media channel wins a cash prize.”
According to the organizers, the entry closes on February 24, 2024 while winners will be announced on February 25, 2024.
“Also, participants are expected to be following DDM across its social media platforms to be part of the entire process.
