A 25-year-old worker, simply identified as Sunday, has been confirmed dead after falling off a storey building at a construction site in Banana Island, Ikoyi in Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 2 pm on Tuesday.

A police source said that the deceased fell from a storey building while clearing out lintel woods on the construction site.

The source added that he was immediately taken to a hospital in Falomo for medical attention, but was declared dead by the doctor on duty

“A carpenter who was contacted by the senior carpenter of the construction site, fell from a storey building while removing lintel woods and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Falomo for medical treatment but was confirmed to be dead on arrival by the doctor on duty,” he said.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the accident to our correspondent, stating that the body had been taken to the Lagos Island General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Hundeyin said, “The body has been taken to the General Hospital, Lagos Island mortuary for autopsy. Preliminary investigations revealed that he may have possibly fallen from the lift shaft used at the construction site. His relatives have been contacted and an investigation is in progress.”

Last year, it was reported that an 18-year-old male student of Lagos State Skills Acquisition Centre Technical School, Egan, simply identified as Oluwaseun, died in an elevator accident that occurred at a construction site in the Ikoyi area of the state. (Courtesy, excluding headline, The PUNCH)
