Destruction of illegal squatters under the Ijora Causeway bridge
The Lagos State government today (Saturday) dislodged illegal squatters under the Ijora Causeway bridge.
Lagos State Commissioner of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement on his X handle.
Wahab said the move was carried out following the expiration of a five-day quit notice issued to squatters on Sunday, 28 January 2024.
He said the enforcement as directed by Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, was in conjunction with Special Intervention Squad led by ACP Bayo Sulaiman, on restoring the Lagos Badagry Rail Corridor clean-up.
Wahab revealed that on Friday, 2 February, 3024 the Monitoring and Enforcement Team of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps dislodged and removed illegal kiosks built under the newly constructed Oyingbo bridge.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner disclosed that a sewage evacuation truck was impounded on Friday. The driver was arrested for discharging faeces in the drainage and polluting the environment in Amuwo Odofin Housing Estate, Mile 2.
He added that the driver has been arraigned and remanded by the magistrate till Tuesday for sentencing. (The Guardian)
