The Kwara Government has closed down Issa Model Nursery and Primary School in Agaka Area, Ilorin West Local Government Area, for failing to comply with the basic standards for establishment and operation of private schools in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, disclosed this during a meeting with owners of unregistered private schools across the state.
She gave all substandard and unregistered private schools three months ultimatum to get their schools registered and adhere to the regulated standard required of all schools or face the penalty.
Modibbo-Kawu frowned at the inability of some owners of private schools to comply with the regulations guiding the establishment of private schools.
She warned that the state government will not hesitate to take necessary actions against any private school operator intending to sabotage its efforts.
She also advised illegal operators of private schools across the state to ensure they follow due process in establishing and registering their schools.
Besides, the former Tertiary Education Commissioner expressed dismay over their substandard schools, which are not in the interest of the children, whom she described as the future of the state.
“The government will not compromise its standard, because a solid and efficient foundational learning is key and the right of every child,” Modibbo-Kawu said.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Rebecca Olanrewaju, added that government would not relent in regulating, approving and monitoring of private schools.
She said the ministry will ensure adequate inspection of both private and public educational institutions for quality assurance and standards.
The Director, Quality Assurance Bureau, Mrs Omolara Ade-Aboyeji, encouraged the proprietors to contact her office regularly and promised to provide them with necessary mentoring and directives for information for schools’ approval.
She further warned them to avoid any roadside registration of their schools. (NAN)
