Akwa Ibom state PPRO, SP Odiko MacDon
Police in Akwa Ibom have confirmed the murder of a young lady with body parts missing in Ekpri Nsukara, one of University of Uyo (UNIUYO) host communities along Nwaniba Road, Uyo, the state capital.
The development yesterday comes a week after a woman was found with head severed in busy Banking Layout in Udo Udoma, another suburb of the capital city.
In the latest incident, the decapitated corpse of the victim, with the upper abdomen missing, was tucked in a ‘Ghana – Must – Go’ bag and dumped at the entrance to the Boys’ School, Anua area of the town by suspected ritual killers.
Emmanuel Ekong, a shocked student of UNIUYO, narrated, “We woke up early Monday morning to discover the trunk of a young lady inside a ‘Ghana – Must – Go’ bag, chopped off from the waist and the other part of the body from the waist to the head taken away. We can’t identify yet whether she’s our fellow students.
Nseobong Idiong, another source corroborated, “We found the body slaughtered and dumped in a ‘Ghana – Must – Go’ bag at the entrance to the Boys School, Anua, Nwaniba Road Uyo, just before the Ekpri Nsukara Junction. It’s pathetic that people could resort to this level of barbarism against fellow humans, no matter the offense she might have committed.”
Youth Activist, Ifiok Bassey, urged “Governor Umo to intervene by impressing it on security agencies to stop the ugly trends. Recall just last week, a lady was beheaded and her headless body dumped in a farmland by the Udo Udoma Banking Layout, Uyo.
“The Police, as usual came and took the headless body, and up till now, nothing is heard concerning the incident. Now this has happened in similar fashion, Police have come to this scene like three times, and there’s every likelihood nothing serious would be done to fish out and bring the perpetrators to book.
“Akwa Ibom state has been touted as one of the cleanest and security – conscious state in the last couple of years, yet these kinds of ugly developments keep denting the state’s image which rubs off negatively on the destination state of tourism and investments hub the Governor is trying to sustain.”
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko MacDon, responded, “We have received that report, it was just an unfortunate act, a dastardly one at that. It’s unfortunate that some people have no value for life, they can resort to barbaric act. We are no longer living in the stone age.
“How can a fellow human treat his fellow being that way? The police command will spare no resources to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book. The Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, is miffed at the report and has ordered investigation one to incident.
“He called on the people of Akwa Ibom State to provide information that could assist the police to track the perpetrators of the crime, adding that the police will treat such information very confidential.” (Vanguard)
