Two persons were reportedly arrested by the security agencies for allegedly attacked a local security outfit at Ngbo Court community in Ohaukwu Local government Area of Ebonyi state which led to killing of a female security personnel and another sustained bullet injuries.
The Special Assistantto Ebonyi state governor on security in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Mr. Ogbonna Oge Tobias confirmed the arrest of the suspected attackers and killers.
Speaking to newsmen in Abakaliki on Thursday, Tobias condemned in totality the invasion/attack of the local security outfit at Ngbo Court by the gunmen.
He said: “We are not happy about that incident. I don't know the reason why thegunmen should attack the security men.
“That attack resulted to the killings of a female security personnel and another sustained bullet injuries. The gunmen also chartered away Motorcycle belonging to the outfit. As you can see, we are on ground and sniffing, making sure that insecurity comes to an end in Ohaukwu LGA.
“We have arrested some suspects and investigation is ongoing, and our promise to our people is that, they should be calm, that we are going to see the end of it.
“There have been peace and our people have been sleeping with their two eyes close. And we are very sad about the killings.”
Tobias however, applauded the efforts of the governor in ensuring that there is peace and order in the various communities of the state.
He advocated for enactment of a law by the state House of Assembly, to empower vigilantes and other local security officers to operate with small guns, in order to challenge the gunmen each time they invade their outfits.
"We urge the government to back our local vigilantes. You see, since the disbandment of Ebube-agu, has made local security men, through the state house of assembly, not to be using arms. And you know, these bad boys do come with sophisticated weapons.
"If the state House of Assembly can come up with a law, a situation where the local vigilantes should be empowered to use at least pump action guns.
"So that whenever these bad boyscomes to attack, they (vigilantes) will be able to engage them. By so doing, the bad boys will stop killing the security men," he stated.
