Some unknown gunmen numbering about four have on Saturday night shot and killed Mr Ndidi Livingstone, the Mgboshimini Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The gunmen, it was gathered, laid siege in wait for the CDC Chairman at the front of the popular pentecostal church, located at Rumueme waterfront, Mile 4, where they shot him in the head and at the back multiple times.

Our Correspondent learnt that the victim before his death had gone into the church to worship, but met his death on his way out of the church premises.

An eye witness In the neighborhood said the assailants trailed the victim in a black sports utility vehicle to the church and waited for him to exit the premises before they shot and killed him.

Meanwhile, the family of the slain CDC Chairman have called on the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is served in the matter.

Mr Godspower Livingstone, elder brother of the murdered CDC Chairman who spoke on behalf of the family in an interview with journalists on Sunday said the assailants wanted to kidnap the slain CDC Chairman, but later changed their minds and killed him, explaining that the gunmen opened fire on the killed CDC Chairman after he recognised one of the gunmen.

Godspower said, “I was in the house when I heard that my immediate younger brother, Ndidi Livingstone has been shot dead at the gate of Peculiar Faith Ministries, his own Church at Rumueme waterside.

“People who saw them with highlander Jeep tinted glass on Police uniform said as they saw my brother they were trying to push him inside the vehicle. My brother opened the vehicle and saw somebody inside and he came out.

“As my brother was struggling to go inside the church, they finally shot him at his head and stomach.

“My call is that Police and other law enforcement agencies should try and see what they can do towards the death of my brother. We need justice.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident.

Iringe-Koko stated that investigation was ongoing, adding that the command was working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident with a view to arresting the perpetrators.

“The Command is aware of the incident and we are trying to unravel the circumstances behind what transpired and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

“No arrest has been made for now, but we are on top gear to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice as investigation is ongoing.” (Sunday Independent)
