The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) yesterday released guidelines and timetable for the local government election in the state scheduled to hold on October 5.
Acting Chairman of the commission, Chief Sylvester Okonkwo, released the timetable in the state capital Awka with the stakeholders and political party leaders in attendance.
He pointed out that he was not afraid of any threat from any quarter, adding that nothing would stop the election from holding.
The acting ANSIEC boss stressed that the wrath of God will befall anybody who tries to stop the election through threats adding that he was doing it because he was directed by the Holy Spirit who said, “My son, go and do it.”
According to Okonkwo, “Four things are likely to happen to those planning to stop this election. It is either the person is lame, blind, deaf or dumb, this is a warning that will catch anybody that tries to stop this election. We are moving forward and there is no going back. We are not going to be intimidated by anybody.”
He further told the stakeholders that no amount of court injunction could stop the conduct of the election, so far the date had been fixed.
“I would throw such injunction to the trash can if it comes,” he said
He urged aspirants to pick their forms and go about their campaigns without rancour and bitterness as the commission has promised a free and fair elections.
