The take-off campus of Tansian University Umunya, Anambra State located at Oba, Idemili North Council was on Friday sealed permanently by its creditor.
Recall that there has been an ongoing impasse between the university and the owner of the which snowballed into a legal battle.
A subsequent court judgment which hinged on the failure of the university to keep to the terms of agreement in a Consent judgement reached between the Chief Executive Officer of Ranent Industries Company Ltd, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka and Tansian University founder Msgnr Johnbosco Akam, the institution was sealed.
In the judgment by His Lordship Hon Justice Arinze Akabua of High Court of Anambra State granted leave of execution to Ranent Industries Company Ltd to confiscate movable and immovable properties of the University to recover its outstanding indebtedness.
The court also ordered Tansian University (debtors/respondents) to vacate with immediate effect the temporary site.
“Leave is granted to Judgment Creditors/Applicants to levy execution on the movable and immovable properties of the Judgment Debtors/Respondents for purposes of recovering the outstanding indebtedness of the Judgment Debtors which now stands at N18 million as at April, 2018.
“Furthermore, Order is made that Judgment Debtors/Respondents vacate with immediate effect the temporary site of the 1st Respondent located at Umuogali village Oba which premises is the property Creditors/Applicants of Judgment
Meanwhile, the top management of the Ranent Industries Company Ltd on Friday stormed the University sacked and sealed the premises.
Speaking with journalists after recovering his property, Chief Ezeonwuka, expressed gratitude to the court for being the last hope of the common man, even as he regretted that the saga has lasted way too long.
He wondered how students cope studying in the dirty environment which he described as dilapidated
Ezeonwuka said: “The school may not be synonymous with cleanliness – the two hostels are disgusting, the entire environment is stomach-churning, its filthy an uninhabitable, filth-ridden university filled with mountains of refuse and bad sewage system is so vile that it guarantees nightmares.
“Having recovered my property, all arrangement has been concluded for my Chinese partners to arrive Nigeria before end of first quarter of next year to revive the Ranent Industries Company Ltd and offer employment to well over 5,000 Anambrarians.”
The sealing of the university has created fear among the staff members and students of the university who as school is expected to resume in January.
Some of the staff who spoke to the press said, they were anticipating amicable resolution of the impasse, instead, the university dropped the ball and Ranent Industries dropped bomb..
There are however feelers that the university may be completely shut down due to the sensitivity of the crises rocking the school.
