Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps have arrested a notorious kidnapper, Usman Garuba, whose gang razed down a village.

Garuba, aged 54, was arrested during a raid of his hideout at Ala Dada/Ago Oyinbo axis of Akure, the state capital.

He had been convicted twice and served jailed terms.

Ondo Commander of Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said Garuba successfully kidnapped nine persons and collected ransom from their families for their release.

He said villagers in one of the communities along the axis of Garuba’s operation challenged him but Garuba returned at midnight with his gang and set all the buildings in the camp ablaze.

Adeleye said Garuba was arrested alongside five members of his gang and items found on them included single barrel guns, bullets, amulets, money received as ransom, food items including half bag of beans, rice, some loaves of bread, rolls of cigarette and other consumable items.

The Amotekun boss spoke when he paraded 62 suspects arrested for kidnapping, rustling, and stealing among other crimes.

Adeleye said a 72-year-old security guard, Suleman Abubakar, was nabbed for giving out information that led to the kidnapping of his boss.

He said Abubakar was found to be in contact with kidnappers.

The Amotekun boss stated that the ember month patrol was strategic to guarantee the safety of lives and properties in the State and for those passing through the highways.

He said: “We have another group that breaks into people’s houses during church service when they know that they would have gone out and we have those that steal goats. The vehicle over there was arrested yesterday fully loaded with goats and we went round Idanre and Ondo West local government where they like ‘Asun’. So, it will be easy for them to sell the goat but they were caught in the act.

“What we are saying in effect is that there is no hiding place for criminals in Ondo State because they will be caught. Therefore, they should leave the state.” (The Nation)
