Governor Oyebanji
The people of Araromi-Ekiti in the Ijero Local Government area of Ekiti State have kicked against the nomination of Prince Babalola Adebomi as the king-designate.
The community said the processes that produced Prince Adebomi were fraught with irregularities and errors, adding that his purported emergence contravenes the customs and tradition of the community having not been properly selected by the kingmakers.
The stool became vacant following the demise of the late Oba Adeoye Falomo II in November 2021.
It was learnt that the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye had directed the kingmakers to within seven days write officially to the Ministry and present Prince Adebomi to begin the process for his installation.
But, the head of the kingmakers and Eisa of Araromi-Ekiti, High Chief Olu Atoyebi faulted the directive, saying nobody has emerged as a King-elect because the selection process has not been completed according to the extant Araromi chieftaincy declaration.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the community, Chief Atoyebi claimed that the processes that produced Adebomi were unacceptable as the kingmakers were prevented from performing their roles.
He maintained that the selection process did not follow the extant chieftaincy laws as the outcome of the selection exercise was predetermined and would not stand. (The Nation)
