Customs boss, Adeniyi Adewale
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed that the agency was not privy to details of Customs modernisation project which the country would invest 3.2 trillion dollars into.
This revelation came when the Customs Controller General, Adewale Adeniyi, represented by Deputy Controller General Mba Musa appeared before the Senate Joint Committee on Finance on Wednesday.
The Committee had sought clarity about the agreement signed by Federal government on Modernisation of Nigeria Customs but Musa told the lawmakers that Nigeria Customs was not privy to details of modernization agreement.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had in April 2023 approved the Nigeria Customs Service modernisation project, also known as e-customs, despite a court order restraining the Federal Government from going on with the initiative.
Speaking further on the waivers and Concessions, he stated that the Customs has lost of 1.3 trillion naira in 2023 owing to waivers and concessions granted to investors, adding that otherwise the Nigeria Customs would have generated more to the nation’s purse in 2023. (Channels TV)
