The Ohaneze Ndigbo World Wide has declared its position on the November 11 Governorship election in Imo State, insisting that they are not supporting any particular candidate.

The National President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday.

He insisted that Ohaneze Ndigbo believes in democracy and has no intention to support any candidate.

Chief Iwuanyanwu, who used the briefing to raise an alarm over threats to his life by the self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, called on all Imolites to disregard the sit-at-home order issued for Friday, November 10th, to Sunday, November 12th, 2023, by the organization, and come out to vote en masse for any candidate of their choice whom they believe has the capacity to govern the state effectively.

The Igbo leader appealed to Kanu to rescind their order in the interest of peace and orderliness, adding that even in times of disagreements, such methods should not be used as a solution.

He said, “As a leader, I am ready to negotiate with anybody. The solution cannot come through a sit-at-home order because such a strategy has destroyed families and homes.”

Chief Iwuanyanwu expressed surprise at how someone living comfortably in another country would give orders for a sit-at-home in Imo State, intending to disrupt the election, especially when other states in the region have already conducted their elections and have new governors in office.

He said, “Why would anybody think that Imo State will not have its own election when other states like Anambra, Enugu, Abia, and Ebonyi have conducted theirs peacefully?”

The Ohaneze Ndigbo National President recalled the threats and abuse he received from the IPOB leader when he attempted to talk to him in Finland.

On the continued killings of Igbos in their own land, Chief Iwuanyanwu expressed regret that an outsider has been inciting Igbos to kill their fellow Igbos, describing it as barbaric.

He said, “In all my life, I have never seen where someone would be commanding Igbos to kill their fellow Igbos, even though I know that Igbos are law-abiding and it’s not in their character.” (Nigerian Tribune)
