Rescue operation on the incident site
A seven-year-old boy, simply identified as Abdul-Hayi, has been recovered dead from a domestic well in Kwara State.
The deceased, from Yaa-Lateef compound, Tinu street, Akerebiata, in Ilorin East Local Government Area, was said to have fell into the well after one of his legs suddenly slipped while he was fetching water around 5:30 pm on Monday.
The Head of Department, Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
He said the firemen were alerted through a phone call by one Mr Idowu, a resident of the community.
According to him, firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr Yussuf, a family member of the deceased.
He said the State Director of Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident.
“He urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities. Olumuyiwa also charged them to desist from sending underaged children to fetch water in a domestic well,” he added. (Daily Trust)
